United Way NWT Opens Applications for the 2026 Community Investment Fund

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YELLOWKNIFE, October 15, 2025—United Way NWT is pleased to open applications for the 2026 Community Investment Fund (CIF). Registered charities and non-profits across the NWT are invited to apply for funding to support projects addressing pressing community needs aligned with one or more of United Way NWT’s three focus areas:

  • From Poverty to Possibility: helping people move out of poverty and meeting basic human needs.
  • Healthy People, Strong Communities: improving access to health and social services and fostering community engagement.
  • All That Kids Can Be: supporting early learning, school success, and the transition into adulthood.

United Way NWT offers two types of grants through the CIF: single-year grants ranging from $7,500 to $10,000 for projects completed within 12 months, and multi-year grants of $15,000 to $20,000 annually for longer-term initiatives up to three years

Applications are open until December 10, 2025. The Community Investment Committee will review applications in January, make recommendations to the board in February, and distribute approved funds by March 2026.

“Every year, we see the incredible ways Northerners care for one another. The Community Investment Fund is about supporting that spirit, helping local organizations continue the vital work they do every day to strengthen our communities,” said Ben Linaker, Board Chair of United Way NWT.

In 2025, United Way NWT awarded $205,000 in grants through the CIF to support 21 local non-profits and community organizations across the NWT. These funded initiatives spanned a range of vital services, including food security, housing, youth programming, cultural wellness, and emergency shelter support.
