Funding Deadline Approaching

United Way NWT 2014 Funding Deadline Approaches

Yellowknife, NT: United Way NWT is getting ready to make its community investment decisions for 2014. Registered non-profits have until October 24 to apply for a grant of up to $5,000 for their community projects.

United Way NWT funding is focused in three areas:

  • From poverty to possibility: Moving people out of poverty and meeting basic human needs
  • Healthy people, strong communities: Improving access to social and health-related support services and supporting resident and community engagement
  • All that kids can be: Improving access to early childhood learning and development programs, helping kids do well at school, and making the healthy transition into adulthood

The application form is simple and available at Applicants must be CRA-registered non-profit organizations.

The volunteers on the community investment committee base their funding decisions on the application and a rating for each of five criteria: effectiveness, community partnerships, accessibility, management and need for United Way NWT support.

In 2013, United Way NWT allocated $51,500 to non-profit organizations. United Way NWT received twenty-two applications from all over the territory. The Board of Directors approved 16 projects, most with a territory-wide reach. In 2014, United Way NWT plans to allocate $65,000 in funding.
