Conscious Kindess

On May 16th United Way NWT participated in the first annual Conscious Kindness day. This was an initiative that began in Winnipeg for their semi-centennial and has grown across the province of Manitoba and is now spreading across the country.

“It’s about creating the kind of community where everyone cares about each other—the kind of community we all want to live in” says Erica Glasier, Senior Director, Marketing & Communications for UW Winnipeg.

This event has had great success due to its simplicity. All those who want to participate in Conscious Kindness day need to do is be kind. Sarah at Let Me Knot and Maureen from Momentum in Yellowknife (Pictured above) decided their act of kindness was to hand out flowers to the pedestrians who passed by Momentum’s offices.

It’s an opportunity for anyone to be altruistic and spread the love across social media. Whether you pay for someone’s coffee or bake treats for your entire office it’s up to you how you’d like to participate. It’s a hit on social media using #locallove and has even been used in schools for students to mobilize and help their community with park clean ups or for local businesses to show their customers their gratitude.
