October 5, 2020 update
United Way NWT continues to work with ESDC to help community service organizations in the territory to adapt to the ongoing pandemic. An envelope of $62,000 has been added to the approximately $102,000 already invested in the Northwest Territories through the ECSF.
Given that requests (which totaled $500,000 in August) far exceeded the available envelope, we will not be holding a second round of open applications for this new funding. UW NWT will enhance projects that have already received funding and reconsider existing requests that had not been accepted.
However, agencies that want to submit a request for a new project may do so with the Yellowknife Community Foundation.
Since March of 2020, the United Way NWT has assisted the Government of Canada in distributing funds from the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) in helping organizations and communities serve and support vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 pandmeic. The fund provides financial support to charities and other qualified donees who continue to adapt their frontline services to support vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ECSF was announced by the Government of Canada and is administered in collaboration with United Way Centraide Canada, Community Foundations of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross. United Way NWT is proud to support this important investment by the Federal Government.
Through two calls for proposals, the United Way NWT has helped deliver $125,000 to charities and organizations to support NWT residents in addressing the impacts of COVID-19. Recipients of ECSF grants are listed below.
Please check back periodically for continuing opportunities to deliver this funding and other COVID-19 response funding in the NWT.
